Changing Seasons

Welcome Autumn – you bring colder nights, dewy mornings, and sometimes scorching afternoons! According to many traditions and practices, this time of year is when routine becomes increasingly important. During times of natural change, our bodies crave order and stability. Luckily, school has started and we have, likely, fallen back into our routines. However, some of us may be struggling to get this just right (you’re not alone!). In this post we will uncover a few ways to fall into an Autumn rhythm as well as some tips to feel calm and nourished along the way. Feel free to try one, some or none of these tips, these are merely suggestions that may or may not feel right for your family.

Rhythms & Routines

Wake up at the same time every day

Avoid sleeping in too late on the weekends

Eat Breakfast together at the same time every day

No screen time after the sun has set

Eat dinner at the same time every day (including weekends!)

Try making 1-3 house rules that are fair, easy to follow, and positive that everyone follows

Examples:

We make our beds before breakfast

We eat dinner at 6pm

Screens are put away at 5:30pm

Self-Care Tips

Incorporate daily movement for the whole family

Make soups, stews and chilis for dinner to nourish the body and soul

Find time to do something that brings you pleasure for 5-20 minutes a day

Drink water throughout the day

Spend time in nature with the family

November Challenge

No screens November!

For the whole month of November, can you and your family avoid non-essential screen time? Try this with another family, friends, or a parenting group. Working together is always easier.
