Mental Health & Wellness Skills
Several staff are trained in the Community Resiliency Model (CRM). This approach is helpful for parents, caregivers, and children. CRM teaches you how to regulate your nervous system in all settings and come back “home” to your body.
Details
There are three main benefits to teaching CRM skills to children:
- Trauma-Informed Approach: CRM equips parents, caregivers, educators, peers, and partners with tools to understand, recognize, and respond to trauma. A safe and supportive learning environment is always created. By addressing trauma and teaching wellness skills, we can promote resilience and improve overall physical and mental health.
- Emotional Regulation: The CRM tools provide strategies for emotional regulation, which help to manage stress and anxiety levels. By teaching these simple and powerful skills, CRM can empower individuals to regulate their nervous system’s response to stress. These skills can be used in daily routines, creating emotional well-being and reducing behavioral issues.
- Building Resilience: CRM emphasizes the development of resilience, which is crucial for our long-term success and happiness. Through various techniques, individuals learn to access their internal strengths and resources to overcome challenges. By cultivating resilience, they are ready to handle adversity, bounce back from setbacks, and thrive. CRM also promotes a sense of connection within the community, reducing shame and creating a supportive network.
The HOPE Approach
Some of our staff is trained in the HOPE approach- Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences in childhood. With this approach, we strive to change the internal and community view on how childhood trauma affects health outcomes.
Details
- Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) create challenges in all communities, but positive experiences affect our health and wellbeing just as much- actually more!
- Our HOPE trained staff are here to train community members in the pillars of HOPE.
- This helps to change the way our children are categorized in school and health systems.
- Changing our mindset and realizing that positive experiences have a huge effect on our health builds community strength, resiliency, belonging, and connection.
